Plastic Upcycling Headquarters

Thanks to our supporters at Salt Island Fish & Beer (that’s owners/operators Emily & Eric), we were able to recently acquire @preciousplastic recycling machines built for us by The Sea Monkey Project, based in Malaysia. We also have an industrial shredder and a mini-injection machine from Sustainable Design Studios in the UK.

We now have the capability to shred, melt, and inject melted plastics into molds that produce durable, long-lasting products while providing education on the promise and limits of recycling. We use recovered #2 and #5 plastics from our Hard-to-Recycle-Center and from beach cleanups as our ‘raw material’. We produce planters, coasters, soap dishes, and marine animal pendants that are given as thank you’s for a suggested donation at the Tybee Farmers Market to raise funds for more clean ups and our programs. These items are also available for purchase at the Tybee Marine Science Center gift shop.

If you’re in the Savannah area and would like to see our workshop, send an email to [email protected] to make arrangements!
